HUST at Night

BldgFront

One night our power went out and we walked to the store to see if we could find some candles. We didn't find candles, but we did discover that the campus is all lit up at night. This is the view from the main gate. The green light comes from floodlights, and the red and blue are neon lights along the edge of the building.

We walked around the side of the building to get this view. Notice the Himalayan cedars around the building. They really are majestic trees.

If you look in the first picture, you can see these lights lining the walkway leading up to the building. In this close-up, notice how each light is shaped like a flower bud.

canting

When we first came to Luoyang, we thought people were calling this building the "canteen". Since then, we have discovered that the Chinese word for dining hall is "canting", and that's just what this is. One day we saw two men putting the lights up in front of the building. They have made an awning from strings of tiny Christmas tree-type lights.
