North Campus - Another Look

gate arch

These red inflateable arches appear whenever there is something special going on - like welcoming students back to school. I took this picture while standing in front of the main campus building, looking back toward the front gate, which you can see beyond the red arch.

Foreign Language Building

The Foreign Language Building is Lee's home away from home. The English Department offices are on the second floor, the Foreign Affairs Office is on the third floor, and Lee teaches most of his classes on the fourth and fifth floors.

Lee lecture

Here is Lee inside the building - in one of the large rooms on the first floor. He is giving a guest lecture on learning to speak English.

bulletin board

Bulletin boards are scattered all around the campus. They contain announcements about activities and events that concern the university students. In addition, the newspaper is posted for everyone to read.

maple trees

One of the prettiest spots on campus is lined with Japanese maple trees. In this picture, the trees show off their distinctive red fall foliage.

track

This is the track where Lee runs. It surrounds a soccer field that is usually full of students playing ball. Sometimes the soccer even overflows onto the track, and Lee has to practice a little dodge ball. The buildings in the background are all dorms.

vine building

Behind the main campus buildings, there are several older buildings that are used for workshops of various kinds. These buildings look more quintessentially Chinese, with their tiled roofs and cucumber vines. You never know where you will find a cucumber vine growing in Luoyang.

lee honor

Lee was honored by the university this year as an excellent teacher. His English name stands out in this list of Chinese teachers who also received the award.

foreign teachers

And lest you think that Deanna is not also "famous in China", her picture is prominent on the bulletin board outside the university's kindergarten advertising their foreign teachers.
