DeannaMap

Although maps of China are plentiful here, maps of the USA are not. Deanna drew this map for Lee to use in his Western Culture classes. As he talks about a certain region of the country, we outline those states in a different color. Maybe we will take another picture at the end of the term, when the map is all colorful!

LeeBike

Lee is the proud owner of a new bike, which he rides to class every day. No, he doesn't get to keep it in the apartment - it lives outside our door in the stairwell. Chinese children spend alot of time traveling on the back of a parent's bicycle. Friends can hitch a ride as well. Deanna has not yet taken a ride on the back of Lee's bike.

TangHorse

Deanna is unpacking the gift we were given for judging the English Speaking Competition of the English Speaking and Communicating Club here on campus. The gift is a set of six tri-chromatic glazed ceramic horses. This type of ceramics have been famous in Luoyang since the Tang Dynasty. The Tang was one of the dynasties that had its capital in Luoyang, and was in power from 618 - 907 AD.

LeeWater

About once a week, Lee has to put a new bottle of water into the water cooler. We call the water company, and in a very short time, a delivery person is at our door. They take away our empty bottle and give us a full one. We keep our water bottles in the cabinet in the entertainment center, since we don't have anything else to put in there anyway! March 15, 2004 was a red-letter day for us. It was the first time Lee was able to order water on his own, without any help from a Chinese-speaking friend.
